Database Fundamentals – Databases are the foundation of most computer applications today. Any application that needs to process and store large amounts of information will likely use a commercial database management system (DBMS). Over time, the commercial DBMSs transitioned from a variety of types to the relational model in products like IBM DB2, IBM SQL/DS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, Informix and others. Relational databases use the industry standard Structured Query Language (SQL) to describe the contents of the database, and to manipulate the data.
This database course will start with an introduction to what a data model is, and what a relational database is, and then cover the basics of database design. Students will use SQL to implement a good database design in a relational database.
MATERI:
- Perform SQL queries using SELECT constructs, operators and subqueries
- Add, update and delete information in a database
- Design a database in third-normal form
- Create and delete database tables
- Perform database joins to combine data from different tables
- Avoid database integrity problems and deadlocks
- Create and use indexes to improve database access speeds
- Access a SQL-compliant database
- Use a data warehouse and understand the basics of data mining
