Criminal Investigation – Criminal investigation is an applied science involving a fact study, used to identify, locate and prove the defendant’s faults. A complete criminal investigation may include search, interviews, interrogation, evidence collection and preservation and various methods of inquiry. Modern criminal investigations generally use many modern scientific techniques known collectively as forensic science.
Criminal investigation is an ancient science that may take root as far as c. 1700 BC in the writings of the Code of Hammurabi. In the code it is recommended that both the accuser and the defendant have the right to submit evidence they collect. In the modern era criminal investigation is most often done by police officers. Private investigators are also usually employed to complete or assist criminal investigations.
