Salah satu post dengan nilai yang terbesar di neraca perusahaan adalah inventory. Besarnya inventory ini bermakna bahwa besarnya nilai capital perusahaan yang tertanam di dalamnya. Sehingga dibutuhkan pengukuran dan pengendalian yang cukup cermat. Terutama oleh bagian Accounting (selain bagian Warehousing).
